Beautiful things on the horizon in the Laurentides region: discover the projects funded for children in 2025

March 24, 2025

This year, Enfant Soleil is donating more than $234,000 in the Laurentides region to improve the care and overall health of children in the area. It supports over a hundred healthcare establishments across the province, in addition to giving vital support to the four major pediatric centres, which provide specialized and superspecialized care to all children who need it.

Discover a project that will make our little sunshines glow with health.

Centre multiservices de santé et de services sociaux de Sainte-Agathe – $50,000

Carried out jointly with the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, the project to renovate the nursery aims to provide specialized care in a safe environment. This project will improve the environment to provide a high-quality, safe care setting for newborns and their parents during extended hospital stays in the intermediate care unit.

In practical terms, this means that more children will be able to receive care closer to home, without having to be transferred to a facility further away. This is great news for families who will be able to stay together during this challenging time. The birth unit team sees around 600 babies born each year. By renovating the nursery, more than 85 additional newborns will be able to receive treatment close to home.

With its equipment and optimized workspace, this unit will be thoughtfully designed to ensure the well-being of the babies!

« We are deeply grateful to Enfant Soleil and the Fondation médicale des Laurentides et des Pays-d'en-Haut for their commitment to the health and well-being of our community. Their exceptional donation has made it possible to renovate the birth unit at the Centre multiservices de santé et de services sociaux de Sainte-Agathe and create a place where families feel supported and confident. We sincerely thank them. »

Other projects supported in the area

Pressure ventilator
This device continuously monitors the childs breathing and oxygen levels during transport, helping to keep them stable. It also helps medical teams provide the best possible care at all times.

Vital signs monitor
This monitor tracks the childs vital signs in real time, such as heart rate and breathing. It helps caregivers react quickly when needed, ensuring the childs safety.

Defibrillator
This essential device optimizes patient care in the event of cardiorespiratory arrest, increasing safety and saving time when every second counts.

2 phototherapy blankets
These blankets are an effective treatment for jaundice in newborns, while preserving precious moments of skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. This helps babies recover quickly and fosters the bond with their parents, both in the hospital and at home.

1 phototherapy lamp
This device effectively treats jaundice, a condition that affects around 60% of full-term newborns and up to 80% of premature babies. With a larger exposure surface, babies benefit from optimal treatment, letting them go home sooner.

*These projects are jointly funded by Enfant Soleil and the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.

Breast pumps and video laryngoscope blade
The amount donated will fund the purchase of two breast pumps and a video laryngoscope blade adapted to newborns, making intubations quicker, safer and gentler.

Pediatric wheelchair
This wheelchair will allow parents and medical staff to move the child safely and stably. It will be used by more than 150 children who visit the hospitals emergency department every year.

Patient lift, assessment battery and parallel bars
This equipment is very useful for professional teams looking after young patients with physical and intellectual disabilities, or those with an autism spectrum disorder. Used for assessment and rehabilitation, they improve the availability of local services in the area.

Édouard Bélanger, Laurentides's Enfant Soleil

He and his family help the cause shine in their region.

Édouard was born on December 31, 2014, with a very serious heart defect. In his very first days, he underwent open-heart surgery, the first of many. His daily life revolved around treatments, medical check-ups and restrictions. In 2019, an infection worsened his condition and his heart weakened dangerously. By 2020, a transplant was his only chance for survival. After an anxious wait, a compatible heart was finally available to him. The surgery was nerve-wracking, but Édouard hung on. Today, he enjoys life with more energy, taking anti-rejection medication daily. A passionate soccer player and lover of geography Édouard is a joyful child who is enjoying his new lease on life.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the various hospital foundations for their invaluable collaboration. As essential allies of Enfant Soleil, they brighten the lives of families affected by illness.
