Beautiful things on the horizon in Îles-de-la-Madeleine: discover the projects funded for children in 2025

March 24, 2025

This year, Enfant Soleil is donating more than $73,500 in Îles-de-la-Madeleine to improve the care and overall health of children in the area. It supports over a hundred healthcare establishments across the province, in addition to giving vital support to the four major pediatric centres, which provide specialized and superspecialized care to all children who need it.

Discover several projects that will make our little sunshines glow with health.

Hôpital de l’Archipel

When a child or a teenager has an illness—whether physical or psychological—it affects the entire family. Thanks to the funds granted this year, Hôpital de l’Archipel will be able to set up a safe hospital room for young people ages 0 to 17 with mental health challenges, intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.

  • The room will be redesigned to provide a secure environment tailored to the specific needs of these patients.
  • It will include an adapted bed, equipped with safety devices and a touchscreen control panel to optimize monitoring and the care provided to the child.
  • A sleeper chair will also be available so that a family member can sit, recline or sleep comfortably at the patient’s bedside.

Children will now benefit from a calming and safe environment that supports their recovery, thanks to this project carried out in partnership with the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.

With the $65,000 granted this year, Hôpital de l’Archipel will also acquire a phototherapy lamp to comfortably and effectively treat newborn jaundice, helping babies go home sooner.

A portion of the funds will also go toward the Programme Jeunesse l’Envol, which supports families and facilitates access to care, especially invaluable when a child’s condition requires specialized treatment in one of the province’s major pediatric centres.

“The new youth mental health room is designed to offer a safe environment tailored to the specific needs of this clientele, who are grappling with significant mental health challenges. This growing reality in the community deserves our full attention, to continuously adapt our practices. This improvement will certainly bring comfort to families during their care journey.”

Huguette Cyr

Director of the Multidisciplinary Health and Social Services

“Hospitalization provides a controlled environment to protect and observe the patient while implementing interventions to help restore their balance. Thanks to Enfant Soleil’s financial contribution, the medical staff benefits from optimal conditions to provide safer, more tailored care to the young patients and their families.”

Another essential project supported in the region

Centre de réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle et en troubles du spectre de l’autisme

The amount given to the CRDITSA this year will allow it to buy rehabilitation equipment that will help the children progress more quickly, ensuring their development.

It will also be able to acquire equipment adapted to new, stimulating spaces, such as a sensory room and an outdoor play area. This project will provide a safe environment for around 50 children with functional limitations each year, helping them blossom and progress at their own pace.

Jacob Boudreau, Îles-de-la-Madeleine’s Enfant Soleil

He and his family help the cause shine in their region.

An energetic and determined child, Jacob’s life changed during a Zodiac outing with his friends when he fell overboard and was struck by the propeller. He sustained serious injuries, including a major skull fracture and a deep laceration. He had to be airlifted to CHUL in Québec City, where complex surgery had to be performed to relieve pressure on his brain. Placed in a medically induced coma, his future was uncertain. Beating all odds, Jacob woke up and embarked on an impressive rehabilitation journey. In just nine days, he left the rehabilitation centre, exceeding medical expectations. Although his right hand remains affected and he has epileptic seizures, he has resumed his activities with the support of his family and continues his rehabilitation.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the various hospital foundations for their invaluable collaboration. As essential allies of Enfant Soleil, they brighten the lives of families affected by illness.
