Discover a project that will make our little sunshines glow with health
A therapy and supervised contact room will be set up at the Centre multiservices de santé et de services sociaux de Port-Cartier thanks to a $6,900 grant. Funded in collaboration with the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, it will provide a soothing and reassuring environment for children and their families.
-
This room will provide community-based services for children living with an intellectual or physical disability, or autism spectrum disorder. It will also offer access to assessments and therapies, while giving parents the opportunity to develop concrete strategies to implement at home.

The layout of the room will create a warm, caring environment to enhance parent-child interactions supervised by youth protection (the DPJ). This friendly and safe atmosphere, closely resembling a family setting, will enable families to experience positive moments together.

Daphnée Tremblay, Côte-Nord’s Enfant Soleil
She and her family help the cause shine in their region.
Daphnée’s birth was a very distressing experience. She was not breathing and had to be resuscitated by the medical team at Hôpital de Sept-Îles. Her mother Mylène soon noticed a malformation of her daughter’s left arm and hand. This condition, known as severe symbrachydactyly, causes Daphnée constant pain as well as hypersensitivity to temperature changes. Everyday actions like playing, eating and moving require tremendous effort.
Specialists suspect a rare syndrome, which adds more uncertainty to her condition. At every consultation, Daphnée’s parents hope for solutions that will ease her suffering and allow her to grow up without pain. Despite the challenges she faces, Daphnée’s resilience and curiosity fill her parents with admiration and pride.
